About Love and Joy Ministries Group
Mission
To effect community transformation, bringing life in all its fullness to the communities it serves.
The Group
The Love and Joy Ministries Group currently consists of three main organisations, each comprising one or more subsidiaries:
• Love and Joy Ministries Ltd is the parent organisation in the group. It is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status.
• Liverpool Lighthouse Ltd, the charitable company that runs the Liverpool Lighthouse
• Majesty Services Ltd, which is the trading arm of the Group.
At the heart of the Group is Temple of Praise, a local church that meets in Anfield but draws its congregation from across the city and beyond. Temple of Praise has daughter congregations overseas.
Love and Joy Ministries Ltd
Love and Joy Ministries runs a number of projects, including:
• A supported accommodation project for 16 – 18 year olds, with personal and life skills development to prepare them for independent living
• Mid-independent flatlets for young people ready to move on from fully supported accommodation.
• LJM International – this includes LFB, an environmental project that recycles quality donated furniture to the public at affordable prices and prevents dumping and waste; the missions arm of the Ministries, which works with and supports like-minded ministries and churches overseas.
• Love and Joy Gospel Choir – a vibrant, multi-racial gospel choir that has performed at venues the length and breadth of the country and abroad, and appears at events as varied as gospel meetings, weddings, launches, memorial services, festivals and civic occasions.
The Liverpool Lighthouse
Liverpool Lighthouse is the UK’s first designated Urban Gospel Arts Centre, dedicated to using Urban Arts as a tool for contributing to the regeneration of the local community and the city. It uses urban arts to engage those excluded or at risk of exclusion in the local community through its training and education programmes, with particular provision for the young (14 – 19 year olds), over 55s, the unemployed, the low-skilled, and Asylum Seekers and Refugees. It runs a number of social enterprises, including venue hire and a healthy eating bistro. It also provides cost-effective office space for small arts-based businesses.
As a venue, the Liverpool Lighthouse offers a number of facilities including a 500-seater auditorium, conference and seminar rooms.
Staffing
LJM Group employs over forty five full-time and part-time staff, with additional consultants and volunteers, all with a diverse range of skills and experience to deliver its services. All staff are employed by the parent company, Love and Joy Ministries Ltd, and allocated to the different organisations or subsidiaries as appropriate.
Our Ethos
The Love and Joy Ministries Group developed out of the work of the local church congregation now called Temple of Praise. It is therefore grounded in a strong Christian ethos from which it draws the following values:
• Every human being is unique and loved and cared for by God, and so deserves to experience God’s love irrespective of gender, race, religion, ability or failings.
• The message of God’s love is preached not only through word but equally through the practical deeds of believers.
• Every person has something to contribute to the development of others if encouraged, empowered and given the opportunity to do so.
• The Biblical model of the family unit with all its values remains the ideal foundation for a functioning and effective community.
• We achieve more through working with others.
• Ideal service is never for selfish gain or personal advancement. Giving is as important as receiving.
All staff and volunteers are expected to respect this ethos and commit to working within it.
