Mission to Kenya

After many years of communicating with Pastor John of Deliverance Church Dagoretti, a team of 5 people lead by Pastor Tani Omideyi finally went to visit the church in November 2007. The team members included Alfie Levene, International Coordinator; Sheila McCormack, Community Development Director; Francis Macharia, Technical Support, and Peter Hawley, praise and worship leader.

.

The 6-day visit started with our arrival in Nairobi. Over the next 5 days we led open-air evangelistic crusades in the main Dagoretti market, during which many people came to Christ, and others received prayer for various needs.

.

A whole day seminar was conducted for pastors and leaders from across Dagoretti, on the theme of ‘Working to transform Communities’.  The period coincided with the general elections in Kenya, which made the theme particularly relevant for Christians who were struggling to identify their role in the nation and their involvement in politics.

.

Dr. Tani’s message was very clear: that the church had a God-given role to play in the future of the nation.  As if to confirm this the President of the nation turned up at the same market we had been using for the Crusade, to conduct his election campaign.

On our one free day the team enjoyed sightseeing around the beautiful city of Nairobi. All in all it was a wonderful first visit, and we look forward to returning in the future.
